Ilham Alwandi is an artist originally from Iraq, with a background in education. Early in her career, she was selected by her school principal to participate in a specialized arts training program, where she graduated among the top students. During this time, she was granted access to resources and materials to support her creative work.

However, following the economic sanctions on Iraq, access to art supplies became extremely limited. Demonstrating both resilience and creativity, Ilham began repurposing discarded and overlooked everyday items—transforming them into beautiful and meaningful handmade pieces. This marked the beginning of her passion for working with recycled materials.

After relocating to Sweden, her artistic journey evolved further. Inspired by her new environment, she continued to explore the potential of raw, unwanted materials, giving them new life through diverse and expressive works of art. Her practice today centers on sustainability, imagination, and the belief that beauty can emerge from the most unlikely of places.
