MAFF Industry Days - Development Fund

For the past 11 years, Malmö Arab Film Festival and MAFF Industry Days (MID) Funding Initiatives have played a huge role in supporting filmmakers. These initiatives provide essential support, including development funds and post-production resources, enabling storytellers to bring their visions to the big screen. MID funding has been expanding, now introducing the Production Fund to support even more filmmakers in developing their projects and bringing them to life. The funding has also encouraged collaboration between Sweden and the Arab world, infusing the Swedish film industry with diverse voices. With over 664 projects submitted, 196 competing, and 97 winning projects. Throughout its nine-year existence, MAFF has awarded a total of 118 grants and awards, making it a vital resource for Arab filmmakers.

The Development Fund was created to support feature films (narratives) and short films in the development phase. To be eligible for feature film projects, a Swedish producer must be connected to the project. For the short category, the applicant must either be a resident or citizen of one of the Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland) or Baltic countries (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia), meaning the short fund is only for the Scandinavian and Baltic regions and co-production is not permitted for the purpose of application.
