ABOUT FILM

Palestinian director Cherien Dabis has made a remarkable mark on the global cinematic scene with her feature film All That’s Left of You, which has embarked on an exceptional festival journey since its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, one of the most important platforms for independent cinema worldwide. Since that debut, the film has received widespread critical and audience acclaim, establishing itself as one of the most notable Palestinian and Arab films in recent years.

The film tells a deeply human story where personal memory intersects with collective history, portraying loss as a continuous condition rather than a fleeting event, and turning survival into a daily act fraught with questions. Dabis moves from the personal to the universal, reflecting on what remains of a human being after loss, and what memory can carry without becoming a suffocating burden.

What distinguishes All That’s Left of You is its quiet and profound approach to the Palestinian experience, far from direct or documentary-style discourse. The film relies on a poetic visual language and a deliberate narrative that allows silence, gestures, and the fragmentation of time to become essential elements of its dramatic structure. The camera moves through multiple spaces reflecting the characters’ geographic and psychological dislocation, while always maintaining an intimate human closeness to faces and details.

The film continued its international presence after Sundance, winning the Golden Gate Award and the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the San Francisco International Film Festival. It also participated in major festivals such as Karlovy Vary, the Red Sea International Film Festival, and the Marrakech International Film Festival.

This journey culminated with the film being officially selected to represent Jordan at the Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category, reaching the shortlist — a new achievement that confirms its artistic standing and its ability to reach a wide global audience.

At its screening at the Malmö Arab Film Festival, All That’s Left of You offers a moving cinematic experience, inviting audiences to discover a film that treats memory as an act of survival and resistance, and cinema as a space for profound reflection on what it means to be human, the meaning of homeland, and what remains when everything seems threatened with disappearance.
